Patuxai

(0 review) • ₭

The Patuxai Monument, also known as the "Victory Gate," is a war memorial in the center of Vientiane, Laos. It was built to honor the Laotian soldiers who fought in the country's struggle for independence from France.
It stands at the end of Lane Xang Avenue, which is the main thoroughfare in the capital city.

The monument is designed in the style of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, but with traditional Laotian motifs incorporated into the design. The monument consists of a central arch, flanked by two smaller arches on either side. The structure is adorned with intricate carvings, mosaics, and statues depicting Laotian heroes and scenes from the country's history.

Visitors to the Patuxai Monument can climb to the top of the structure for panoramic views of Vientiane and the surrounding area.

Fun fact: Patuxai is sometimes known as the “vertical runway” because it was built with American money and materials intended for a new airport.
