Chao Anouvong was the last king of the Kingdom of Laos, and is considered a national hero for his efforts to defend his country against foreign invaders.

The statue is in the Chao Anouvong park along the Mekong river, it is made of bronze and stands at a height of 6 meters, depicting the king with his sword drawn and mounted on a horse.

Inaugurated in 2010, it has become a popular tourist attraction in Vientiane.
